Safety Education Programs
T the Safety Education Division of the Abilene Police Department provides the following programs. All programs are 45 minutes in length and are conducted at your facility.

OFFICER FRIENDLY
Provided
for K-1st grade students. A police officer will allow the children to
handle some of the gear on his belt and explain what each item is and how it is
used. Junior police badges will be given to each child and they will take
the junior police oath. A police car or McGruff puppet may also be used.
STRANGER DANGER
Provided for children in K-5th grades. The children will receive an oral presentation and will watch a video about strangers. They will discuss what happened to the children in the video and receive a coloring sheet about strangers.
DRUG AWARENESS
Provided
for children in grades 4th-8th grades. This is an oral presentation that
will include participation by the students. A drug box will be displayed
to show the students what drugs look like. Some drug information pamphlets
my be provided to teachers upon request.
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Provided
for children in grades 1-3. This is also an oral presentation that
includes participation by the students. The students will also see a video
pertaining to pedestrian safety.
BICYCLE SAFETY
Provided for children in grades 2-5. The students will see a video pertaining to bicycle safety and will participate in a discussion about bicycle safety.
